I watched the movie ‘Bheja Fry’ a couple of days ago and for those of you haven’t done so, the storyline revolves around a successful ,arrogant businessman who has this unique concept of inviting an ‘idiot’ to a dinner party .Along with a group of friends they make this ‘idiot’ showcase his talent and calling him the ‘dinner talent’ and without the bait knowing he is being humiliated they take pleasure in making a fool of them … calling the event a stress buster. The movie then focuses on the idiot of the week and the businessman stuck together for the night . Though the movie was a laugh riot it set my mind on a different track of thought.
What is it about human beings that makes us absolutely too cruel to believe sometimes? We often see the perverse pleasure people get out of humiliating another , hurting them, spreading malicious gossip, speaking ill of them or plainly enjoying the pain the other goes through . Sickening isn’t it??? To appear one up, one has to put the other one down. To appear a more intelligent person, the other is humiliated and looked down upon.
Right through the film, the perverted mind of the businessman, played by Rajat Kapoor takes pleasure in playing around with emotions of everyone around. Beyond his own selfish being he cannot see anyone or sense anything. The Idiot on the other hand played by Vinay Pathak shows the caring sensitive man he is always willing to help.
A perfect showcase that arrogance and thinking a lot of just oneself can make one so inhuman that anothers humiliation is the only source of entertainment, of pleasure. When we do act or speak do we ever think of how the other person may feel … Is insulting and humiliating another the only way we feel we are bigger than that person? Is the self worth so low that one needs to depend on humiliating another just to feel good themselves?
As I see it for every little thing a person lacks, God makes sure they are compensated in other ways. A person with a low IQ may be very talented in some field, an athlete may not be good in studies. A state topper may be a bad sportsperson . A large hearted person may not be very successful and so on. Why can’t we as humans identify and appreciate good in others more than highlighting what the other lacks? Baffles me .
Well the movie definitely fried my Bheja or brains into thinking how low we humans can stoop when we have an inflated self image and a bloated Ego. Made me ashamed to think that we consider ourselves superior thinking and feeling creations of God when there is a lot we can learn from the so called lesser creations …the animals around us.
Why do you think people get pleasure out of others pain?
