There are no perfect men in this world, only perfect intentions. ~Pen Densham, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves
A conversation with a friend had me really really thinking about this one. He wanted to know why I wanted to be a good person always .Why I was striving for perfection which was impossible. Was it for approval, to look good in others eyes or was it something more? Is there a naivete in me that still believes in good? Or is it just that I have set certain bars for myself that aims at molding myself into someone that I would like, as someone who I can feel proud about, someone who has made a tiny wee bit of difference and touched a few lives.
I have from life learnt that there are somethings in common with people who achieve something in their lives ….They strive to achieve something for their own satisfaction, not to please others or gain approval. They do it because it gives them an inner peace to be able to be the way they are .They live by a certain philosophy, a certain attitude that is entirely their own …this attitude drives their actions that in turn drives their results. This means to focus and develop an attitude towards being the person you want to be .
Developing a positive attitude that lets you go ahead and live your beliefs. If you are always waiting for approval or waiting to measure up to being something that others want you to be you are filled with negative energy that stops you from actually achieving what you want from your life. Most people have a tendency to judge you…saying that you are wrong, you can’t do it..they give up on you thus making you doubt your own capabilities. Shut them out and believe in what you believe in .
Focus completely on yourself and what you believe in. As time goes by I realize so many just wait to pull you down and tell you that what you strive for yourself is not possible. May be in the realms of their thinking its not but you are the one who is striving for perfection …or excellence . How would they know what you are capable of , of your strengths and weaknesses. If you believe you can you will focus completely on yourself.
While you cannot allow the stress of performing well n being perfect get to you, one can definitely try to get there if one wants to…the only difference being do it for yourself not others. Having said this let me come back to what my friend said .
I am a person who likes to learn from everything in life…why do I like to improve on who I am ? Just because for me its a way of praying, its a way of showing my creator my gratitude for being alive…Its a way of telling myself that you can improve on who you are , if you can then why stagnate and be happy with who you are .I see acceptance, forgiveness, compassion and love as the most important characters that is necessary for a person to be a decent human…it is not something one develops to impress others its just something that every human being should have in them. If that makes me a good human then am i striving for something that is impossible n perfect?
I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can’t see from the center. ~Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., Player Piano.
